Junk removal cost
What Junk Removal Costs and What Sets the Price
How haulers price a load by the share of the truck it fills, what a full truckload and a single item run across the trade, and the weight, disposal, stair and same-day charges that move the price. Free estimates, Monday to Saturday.
How pricing works
Junk removal priced by truck space
Junk removal is priced mainly by how much of the truck your items fill, in quarter, half, three-quarter and full loads, and that price covers the crew's labor, fuel and disposal fees. That is the first thing to know about junk removal cost: the number follows space, not the count of items, so a few bulky pieces can take more of the truck than a pile of small ones.
Haulers measure that space in cubic yards. A standard household washing machine takes up about one cubic yard, which makes a load easy to picture: count the pile in washing machines and you have a rough sense of the fraction of the truck it will take.
Because trucks are priced in fractions of capacity, every pile lands on a quarter, half, three-quarter or full load, and you pay for the fraction it fills. A volume-based price usually rolls the crew's labor, the fuel to and from the job and the disposal fees into that one figure, so the load fraction is most of the conversation about price.
What moves the number from there is what the load is made of, how hard it is to reach and when you need it gone, and the sections below take those one at a time. When you call us, we ask what the items are and where they sit, or you text a few photos, and we give you a free estimate before anything is lifted. When the crew arrives, it confirms that estimate on site and adjusts it up or down only for the actual volume, labor or weight it finds, so the price you hear before removing a thing is the price you can plan around.

A full load
What a full truckload costs
A full truckload of about 400 to 450 cubic feet can cost $400 to $800 across the trade, depending on the company. The range is wide because one hauler's full load may hold 400 cubic feet and another's 450, and each company sets its own rate for that space.
$400–$800
a full truckload of about 400 to 450 cubic feet, by industry figures
Since a standard washing machine takes up about one cubic yard, a full load holds many washing machines' worth of space. A load smaller than that lands on the fraction of the truck it fills rather than on the full-load price.
These are industry figures, not our quote. The price for your load comes from a free estimate, and when you compare companies, ask how many cubic feet their full load holds, so you are comparing the same space at each price. A full load is also the point where weight, access and timing matter most, since a heavy or hard-to-reach load of that size adds up fast; the sections below cover each.

One piece
Single items and minimum loads
A single item is priced as a minimum load, and services that price by item charge the highest price for the first item and less for each one after. The minimum load is the smallest load a hauler prices, about one pickup truckload, so "just one couch" is a job worth a call: you pay for the minimum rather than for a share of a truck you do not use.
Item pricing works differently from volume pricing. A service that prices by the item charges its highest first-item price once, then a lower price for each additional piece, so the second and third items on the same visit cost less than the first. That makes it worth adding the old mattress or the broken chair to the same pickup instead of booking each later as a single item of its own.
A single-item pickup is the smallest job there is, at the opposite end from a full property cleanout. When you call, tell us everything you might add, so the free estimate covers the whole visit.
What the load is
Weight, disposal fees and special handling
Heavy materials, higher disposal fees and items that need special handling, such as refrigerators with coolant, raise the price. Space sets the base, but disposal fees vary by material, so the price depends on what the items are as well as how much there is. The charges that most often move a load above its fraction of the truck are these.
- Heavy materials. Dirt, concrete, tile and construction debris can cost more because of their weight and their disposal fees.
- Disposal fees by material. Fees vary by material, so two loads of the same size can price differently.
- Special handling. Refrigerators with coolant and electronics add to the cost.
- Extra-heavy items. A single extra-heavy piece is a common add-on charge across the trade.
If a load mixes heavy debris with household junk, tell us on the call so the estimate accounts for the weight; the crew confirms it on site before anything goes on the truck.

Where it sits
Stairs, long carries and curbside pickup
Stairs, long carries and items spread across rooms add labor, while grouping items at the curb or in the garage lowers it. The labor side of the price follows how far and how hard the crew carries each piece to the truck, and these move it up or down.
- Stairs and elevators. Stair carries and elevator access add to the price.
- Long carries. A long walk from where the items sit to the truck adds labor.
- Spread-out items. Items over several rooms or floors take longer to collect.
- Street-level access. Where the truck can pull right up, labor costs stay low.
- One spot. Grouping items in the garage, driveway or curb lowers labor charges.
Curbside pickup is the cheapest service level: you move the items to the curb or driveway first, "curb pickup" in plain words, and the crew only loads. The trade-off is that the carrying becomes yours, while full-service removal means the crew comes inside and carries items out from anywhere in the home.

When and what else
Same-day service and add-on charges
Same-day and weekend jobs cost more than jobs booked ahead, and common add-ons include bed bug wrapping, stair carries, extra-heavy items and disassembly. If your date is flexible, booking a few days out is the simplest way to keep the cost of removing a load down. The add-on charges common across the trade are these.
- Bed bug wrapping
- Same-day service
- Stair carries
- Long carries
- Extra-heavy items
- Disassembly
Disassembly covers pieces that must come apart to leave the room, and bed bug wrapping seals infested furniture before it is carried through the home. A weekend slot or a same-day call is worth asking about when the deadline is real, such as a move-out or a closing date. Ask about each one when you call. We quote the whole job before we start, with no surprise charges after, so an add-on your job needs shows up in the estimate rather than on the day of the pickup.
Good to know
More about junk removal quotes
Two more questions decide whether a quote holds. One is how the number was reached, from photos or a visit rather than a guess; the other is how the price of a whole job runs beyond a single load, for a room of furniture or an office. Both are answered briefly here, and the last question, whether the estimate itself costs anything, has a one-word answer. Each short answer below points to the page that covers it in full.
Avoiding a lowball junk removal quote
A quote should come from photos or a visit and be confirmed on site, since lowball quotes can double once the crew sees the job. Be wary of a low number given without anyone seeing the items. When our crew arrives, it confirms the estimate and adjusts it only for the actual volume, labor or weight. Homes and businesses get that kind of quote, confirmed on site, through our junk removal in Phoenix.
What furniture and office cleanouts cost
A typical furniture job can run about $125 to $400 and most office cleanouts about $500 to $2,000 by industry figures, each priced on its own page. Commercial office cleanouts are quoted per project rather than by the load, so the figure depends on the size of the office and what is in it. A single sofa or a full room is a junk removal job we price under furniture removal.
Whether the estimate is free
Yes, EJ Junk Removal gives free, no-obligation estimates. Call or text a few photos of the items, and we quote the whole job before we start, with nothing owed if you decide not to book. The crew confirms that estimate on site before any work starts.
Reviews
What Phoenix neighbors say
"The crew cleared years of boxes and an old couch out of our garage in one visit. The price they gave from our photos held on the day, and they swept the floor before they left."
"Our old spa had been dead for years. They cut it into pieces, carried it out through the side gate and left the pad swept clean."
"We were handling my mother's house from out of state. They sent photos of each room, set aside the papers they found and left the house ready to list."
